Newton is an 18.2 square mile city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The city has undergone several name changes starting in 1688 when the area was known as Cambridge Village and was incorporated as a town. In 1691 Cambridge Village became Newtown, which was renamed Newton in 1766. In 1873 Newton was incorporated as a city. Newton is bordered by the Waltham, Watertown, Needham, Wellesley and Weston neighborhoods.
